Bank HR Practice Test

How a bank earns, one sales incentive, one team's bonus round, and the calls a people partner gets when the top earner is the problem.

BY MICHAEL SHANG · SIXTEEN YEARS IN COMMERCIAL BANKING · UPDATED

// THE SHORT ANSWER

A bank HR practice test asks whether you can hold a line on pay and conduct when the top earner is the problem. This paper has four parts: how a bank earns and why it is regulated; one product's sales incentive; one team's bonus round, set on an exhibit, with deferral, conduct and protected leave; and calls on references, redundancy, whistleblowers and leavers. It tests judgement, and not the employment law of any one country. Every question is original, and none comes from any bank's test. Sit it against a thirty-minute clock, or take it as practice.

BASIS  Practitioner judgment from sixteen years in commercial banking, set out in How Bankers Think (Highbank Press, 2026). Every borrower on this site is a composite constructed for teaching, not a client. The market is mid-market commercial lending as practised in New Zealand and Australia; where a convention differs elsewhere, the page says so.

// HOW TO SIT IT

Answer below as practice, and each read opens as you go. Or sit it as a test: 30 minutes, with every read held back until you finish.
