// THE SHORT ANSWER

An ancillary facility is a bilateral facility, such as an overdraft, a guarantee line, a foreign exchange line or a card limit, that one lender in a syndicated revolving credit facility provides to the borrower out of its own share of the revolver. That lender's revolving commitment is reduced by the ancillary amount while the line is in place and restored when it ends, so the borrower's total available credit does not change. It lets a group run its day-to-day banking under the syndicated agreement and its security, while the ancillary lender documents and manages that line itself.
